I am comanded by By Lorda Commissioners of the
Admiralty to acquaint you that They have had under Their
consideration your letter åsted 25th Karch, 1936, repard ing
the protection of British ships in the China Jeas aka inst
piracy, and have communion bed that letter to the other
Government Departments concerned.
2. It is noted that you accept the decision of H.M.
Government in the matter. The necessary instructions are
accordingly being sent by telegram to the authorities at
Hong Long.

3. The provisions to be made for the organisation of

It is pointed out, however, that the strength of the guarda cost be within the discretion of the Commander-in-Chief and General officer Commanding and la & matter in which H.k Government cannot interfere.
Your remarks as regards the incidence of the coat of the scheme have been noted. These matters were taken fully into consideration before the decision of His Majesty's Government communicated in py letter 1.0683 of 18th March, 1939.
